How to work out your sleep debt from Apple Watch data
Sleep debt is the running gap between the sleep you need and the sleep you got. Apple Health records every night, but it never adds the gap up. This prompt does.
Reviewed
Using the telo connector, work out how much sleep I am missing against eight hours a night over the last month, and whether I ever pay it back on weekends. Then tell me the one change most likely to close the gap, given my own pattern.
telo read sleep, 28 nights
Over the 26 nights with a record, you are 17.6 hours short of eight a night. Weekends pay back 2.8 of those hours. Two nights have no record, so they stay out of the total instead of counting as zero.
Example records, not yours. Your answer reads your own history.
What it reads
- Sleep sessions from the last month, with time asleep per night
- The day of the week of each night, to compare weekdays and weekends
Where the answer can go wrong
Eight hours is a fixed target, not your measured need, so treat the total as a comparison and not a diagnosis. Nights you did not wear the watch have no record at all. Ask the answer to count them separately, because counting them as zero sleep inflates the debt and skipping them silently hides it.
Can I do this without telo?
You can export Apple Health from the Health app and upload part of it, but an export is a snapshot of one day, and the full XML is usually too large for a chat to read whole. The prompt still works as a checklist of what to look at. telo keeps the history synced so the assistant reads it directly.
